Nittany Media Inc., Our Customers
&
Federally Mandated Digital Transition

March, 2008

Beginning in 2009, high-power over-the-air television stations will broadcast in a digital-only format.  This means that analog TV sets will no longer display high-power broadcast TV signals unless they are connected to cable or to a special digital-to-analog converter.

The digital transition for Nittany Media Inc. cable customers is seamless.  Nittany Media Inc. currently supplies the digital signal of the broadcast television stations and converts that signal into analog format so that these channels can be viewed on any analog TV set connected to cable.  The carriage of signals in both digital and analog formats, along with direct studio feeds on Nittany Media Inc.’s Advanced Digital Fiber Network will ensure that all our customers see commercial broadcast TV signals and programming from major over-the-air networks and the Public Broadcasting System in the highest quality available.

The benefits of the transition include the reduction of the amount of “spectrum, or band width” the television broadcasters use.  This additional spectrum will be made available to emergency services, local police and fire departments, significantly increasing public safety for all.

Changing to digital broadcasting allows television stations to distribute noticeably clearer signals to Nittany Media Inc. and, in turn, to you.  In addition Nittany Media Inc. has acquired direct digital studio feeds from many of our local broadcast television stations; giving you improved video and audio quality.  As the demand for high definition (HD) programming accelerates, with the extra capacity to carry this extremely popular format, we will continue to add more high definition channels.

Again, Nittany Media Inc. handled the transitioning of signals for customers with analog televisions.  Our CUSTOMERS NEED DO NOTHING... but continue to enjoy the programming you are accustomed to receiving.
